Prysmian Names New Cable-Laying Vessel Prysmian Monna Lisa in Finland
Italian cable manufacturer Prysmian Group has officially named its latest cable-laying vessel, the Prysmian Monna Lisa, during a ceremony in Finland. The 171-meter-long ship is equipped with two large cable carousels, capable of holding 7,000 and 10,000 tons of subsea cable, respectively. It also features a hybrid battery system combined with diesel generators, providing both power efficiency and reduced emissions.
The Prysmian Monna Lisa is designed to lay subsea cables at depths of up to 3,000 meters, operating in both soft and rocky seabeds around the world.
Prysmian Group plans to expand its specialized fleet to eight vessels by 2028, having invested approximately €850 million in fleet growth since 2018.
In addition, Prysmian has recently completed a €200 million expansion project at its submarine cable manufacturing plant in Finland, increasing the facility’s production capacity to approximately 1 kilometer of cable per day.
