A fire broke out on board the river passenger vessel Mariandl on the Danube on 19 December, at approximately river kilometer 1999. Authorities said there were no fatalities or injuries.
The fire started in the ship’s engine room at around 5:00 p.m. local time, triggering an emergency response involving multiple fire units. Fire trucks and rescue boats were dispatched to the scene.
Meanwhile, the crew safely brought the vessel alongside near Krems and used onboard extinguishers to bring the situation under control. All 25 passengers were evacuated without harm.
Responding firefighters quickly extinguished the remaining fire. The cause of the engine-room blaze has not yet been disclosed by authorities.
