On November 8, the Norwegian-flagged vessel Soroysund ran aground near Fjeldal Island in northern Norway. According to local authorities, no injuries among the crew were reported.
On November 9, the Norwegian Coastal Administration (Kystverket) launched a salvage operation to refloat the vessel. However, the effort was temporarily suspended after a fuel leak was detected in one of the ship’s tanks.
Preliminary estimates suggest that approximately 4,000 liters of diesel fuel spilled into the sea. Authorities began transferring the remaining 27,000 liters of fuel into 1,000-liter portable tanks to prevent further contamination.
Oil containment booms were deployed to limit the spread of the spill, while cleanup crews continued working along the shoreline and near local yacht piers.
Municipal authorities reported that surveillance aircraft and monitoring teams were inspecting the affected area from both air and sea, assessing environmental impacts and ensuring the effectiveness of containment measures.
According to MarineTraffic data, the vessel Soroysund—measuring 60.58 meters in length and 10.5 meters in beam—remains grounded as of the latest update.
