‼️ A hantavirus outbreak has been confirmed aboard the cruise vessel MV Hondius, operated by Oceanwide Expeditions. According to latest reports, three people have died, while several others are under medical supervision.

The vessel departed from Argentina حوالي three weeks ago and is currently located off the coast of Cape Verde. There are حوالي 150 passengers and crew members on board.

🗣 Laboratory tests have confirmed hantavirus infection in at least one of the six affected individuals. The virus can cause severe respiratory illness, with mortality rates reaching up to 40% in serious cases.

❌ Authorities in Cape Verde have so far refused permission for disembarkation, despite the need for medical assistance. One of the patients has already been medically evacuated to South Africa and is currently in intensive care.

⚠️ Hantavirus is primarily transmitted through contact with rodent excreta. Human-to-human transmission is extremely rare. There is no specific cure, and treatment is limited to supportive care.
