TT-Line has officially confirmed the order for its second Green Ship 2.0 hybrid ferry, continuing the fleet renewal program announced with the first vessel at the end of 2025. Both sister ships will be built at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Nanjing and will play a key role in the company’s long-term sustainability strategy.
The first ferry is expected to enter service on the Baltic Sea before the summer of 2030. The new generation of vessels builds on the success of TT-Line’s Nils Holgersson and Peter Pan, offering greater energy efficiency, lower emissions, and improved passenger comfort.
Each vessel will accommodate up to 930 passengers and provide 5,400 lane meters of cargo capacity, making them suitable for both freight transport and passenger services across the Baltic Sea.
The ferries will feature a hybrid LNG propulsion system combined with a 5.5–10 MWh battery energy storage system. The design also allows for a future transition to fully electric propulsion as charging infrastructure and battery technology continue to develop.
Advanced shore power connections will enable the batteries to be recharged during port calls. According to TT-Line, the battery system will allow silent and emission-free operation while the vessel is in port and during maneuvering, while intelligent energy management will optimize power consumption and improve operational efficiency.
The ships are also designed with additional battery compartments and a future-ready electrical architecture, allowing further electrification throughout their service life without major structural modifications.
Passenger facilities will include 300 cabins, redesigned accommodation options for families, couples, and truck drivers, larger restaurants and lounges, upgraded crew areas, a wellness zone with a sauna and jacuzzi, children’s play areas, and dedicated spaces for passengers traveling with pets.
