Pioneering Remote Pilotage for a Sustainable Maritime Future
DanPilot and Danelec have received approval from the Danish Emergency Management Agency to launch the world’s first remote pilotage test program. This groundbreaking initiative, developed over six years, allows pilots to guide vessels from shore using real-time data, significantly enhancing safety, reducing fuel consumption, and supporting Denmark’s leadership in sustainable shipping.
The test, conducted in the Kattegat and western Baltic Sea, eliminates the need for physical pilot boarding in certain scenarios, improving both safety and operational efficiency. This program aims to cut fuel use, reduce emissions, and create a more digital maritime infrastructure, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change.
Key details:
-
Test period: Up to 18 months, covering around 50 pilotage operations.
-
Applicable to vessels in selected Danish waters with a draft less than 13 meters.
-
Operations managed from a control center in Randers.
With this initiative, Denmark is setting a new standard for digital maritime innovation, paving the way for broader adoption of remote pilotage worldwide.
