The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has announced a 15% discount on transit fees for container ships with a net registered tonnage (NRT) exceeding 130,000 tons. This measure, outlined in a press release from the Swedish group GAC, is in response to improved security conditions in the Red Sea and the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait.
According to SCA Circular No. 3/2025, the discount applies to both fully loaded and empty container ships transiting the Suez Canal in either direction, starting from May 15, 2025, for a period of 90 days. The discount will be applied automatically during transit, without the need for any special requests or additional documents.
The discount rate will be calculated based on the standard transit tolls outlined in the official toll table, as well as additional surcharges for container tiers.
