Turkey to Raise Transit Fees for Bosphorus and Dardanelles by 15% Starting July 1, 2025
Starting July 1, 2025, Turkey will increase the transit fee for ships passing through the Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits by 15% — from $5.07 to $5.83. The fee applies to vessels transiting without stopping at Turkish ports.
According to the Turkish Minister of Transport, more than 51,000 transiting ships generated $227.4 million in revenue for the country in 2024. This adjustment follows the presidential decree introduced in 2022, which mandates annual indexation of the fee every July 1.
Between 1983 and 2022, the fee remained constant at $0.80. It was raised to $4.08 for 2022–2023, then to $4.42 for 2023–2024, and to $5.07 for 2024–2025. The new rate of $5.83 reflects Turkey’s continued effort to increase income from international maritime traffic.
