On June 27, a major fire broke out on board the bulk carrier Altay, which was docked at Albert Dock in the British city of Hull. The fire started at around 10:22 AM local time in the ship’s cargo hold, where scrap metal was being stored.
A thick column of grey smoke spread across the city center, triggering concern among residents and businesses. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service responded promptly, deploying four fire engines, an aerial platform, and support from Hull Coastguard Rescue Team.
Residents in nearby areas were advised to keep windows and doors securely closed until the situation was under control.
According to emergency services, all individuals on board were accounted for and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
