Family-owned investment company Havila Holding has acquired the multi-purpose offshore supply vessel Polarsysselfrom Fafnir Norway through its subsidiary Havila Skipsinvest.
The vessel plays a vital role in supporting the Governor of Svalbard, carrying out tasks such as maritime patrol, inspections, law enforcement, search and rescue, environmental monitoring, and oil spill response. Svalbard is a Norwegian Arctic archipelago located between mainland Norway and the North Pole.
Fafnir has owned the vessel since its delivery in 2014, while Havila has been responsible for its daily operations since 2015. The vessel is crewed by approximately 20 permanent personnel, and the ownership change will not affect their employment.
A new five-year contract with the Governor of Svalbard will take effect on January 1, 2026, with an option to extend for an additional two years.
Ahead of this contract, the vessel has undergone upgrades, including the installation of a new helideck, a stern crane capable of launching the Fjordsyssel workboat, a redesigned reception and boarding area, and technical facilities to accommodate crew equipment used with the Super Puma helicopter.
