Italian passenger ferry Driade ran aground in the port of Procida on the evening of October 12, with 115 passengers onboard. No injuries were reported.
The incident occurred while the vessel was manoeuvring to berth in strong wind conditions.
According to initial information, strong winds pushed Driade toward the outer breakwater, causing the ferry to run aground.
Despite the incident, the situation onboard remained under control. All 115 passengers were reported safe and unharmed, with no injuries reported among the crew.
After a series of manoeuvres, the ferry was successfully refloated at around 8:00 p.m. local time.
Driade then safely reached its berth in the port of Procida, where the vessel was inspected by local authorities.
Following the grounding, port authorities ordered the temporary detention of the ferry while technical checks were carried out and the circumstances of the incident were assessed.
Passengers and vehicles scheduled to continue their journey to the island of Ischia were transferred to another ferry.
After receiving clearance from the authorities, Driade departed Procida on October 13 and arrived at Ischia later the same day.
No significant hull damage or marine pollution has been reported following the incident.
Port authorities are continuing to investigate the grounding, including the effect of strong winds on the vessel during its berthing manoeuvre.
