A 70-ton fishing vessel ran aground in the Yellow Sea off South Korea, later developing a severe list. All 10 crew members onboard were successfully rescued.
The incident occurred during the afternoon of October 13 near Hongdo Island in Sinan County, South Jeolla Province.
The vessel, whose name has not been disclosed, was engaged in eel fishing and was sailing toward Yeri when strong currents reportedly caused it to run aground.
The situation later deteriorated as the vessel listed approximately 45 degrees to port, forcing the crew to abandon the ship.
All 10 crew members transferred to life rafts while waiting for assistance.
The South Korean Coast Guard received a report of the incident and dispatched patrol vessels from Mokpo to the area.
A response team arrived at the scene and carried out the rescue operation, successfully evacuating all 10 crew members from the fishing vessel.
According to initial reports, one crew member sustained an injury, while the remaining nine were reported to be in good condition.
The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the grounding, including the role of strong currents in the accident.
Authorities have not disclosed whether the vessel sustained significant structural damage or whether any fuel or other pollutants were released into the sea.
It also remains unclear when the fishing vessel will be refloated or what type of salvage operation may be required.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
