On September 17, 2025, China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) officially took delivery of the world’s first dual-fuel methanol Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) with a capacity of 9,300 vehicles. The vessel, named CM Hong Kong, was built by China Merchants Industry.

Energy system
The vessel features a fully integrated methanol-based energy ecosystem including:

This allows seamless switching between fuel types. The vessel meets IMO Tier III emission standards and, when running on methanol, can cut greenhouse gas emissions by more than 70% compared to conventional marine fuels.
Fleet expansion and outlook
CM Hong Kong is the first in a series of six dual-fuel methanol PCTCs ordered by CMES. The delivery strengthens the company’s ro-ro fleet and reinforces its position in the global PCTC market while advancing the shift toward greener shipping.
