On April 19, 2025, the 65-meter, 2,668-ton passenger ferry Lite Ferry 5 (IMO: 9873321) ran aground near Jagna Port on Bohol Island, Philippines.
The vessel was en route to Cagayan de Oro when it was pushed into shallow waters by the outgoing tide. It had traveled only about 200 meters from the port when it became grounded in the Bohol Sea.
A total of 506 people were on board — passengers and crew. The crew immediately contacted Philippine authorities for assistance. The evacuation operation took all night, with support from the Philippine Coast Guard, Navy, and local fishermen. All passengers and crew were safely brought ashore, with no injuries reported.
Authorities inspected Lite Ferry 5 and found no damage. A tugboat was dispatched from Cebu to refloat the vessel. No fuel leaks were reported.
