A major collision between two Swedish-flag ferries occurred on 11 March in the port of Trelleborg, after one of the vessels reportedly lost control while entering the harbor. Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported and no environmental pollution occurred.
The ferry Skåne, carrying approximately 130 passengers and arriving from Rostock, Germany, was positioned at the berth when it was struck by the ferry Tinker Bell, which had departed from Klaipėda, Lithuania, following technical maintenance.
The incident occurred around 13:30 local time, when Tinker Bell reportedly experienced a technical malfunction, causing the vessel to lose maneuverability and collide with the stationary Skåne. The situation prompted an immediate response from the Swedish Coast Guard and port authorities.
Passengers and vehicles aboard Skåne were safely disembarked in the port following the incident.
The 219.95-meter ferry Skåne sustained significant damage to its bow above the waterline. Divers were deployed to inspect the vessel for possible underwater damage.
Both ferries remained in port for inspection and were later declared seaworthy. Swedish authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision.
