A South Korean company has introduced a newly patented multi-fuel bunker vessel concept designed to handle several alternative marine fuels from a single platform.
Sun Comprehensive Energy says the bunkering vessel can transport and deliver LNG, methanol, ammonia and hydrogen—fuels that differ significantly in density, storage conditions and temperature requirements, making an integrated “one-ship, multiple-fuels” approach technically demanding.
CEO Kang Pyeong-ho said the platform technology—aimed at enabling the safe supply of multiple fuels from one vessel—could become an industry standard for shipping and shipbuilding in the future. He added that the patent registration, in his view, lays a technical foundation to strengthen the global competitiveness of Chinese companies.
