On January 3, the Palau-flagged general cargo vessel White Line ran aground in the Sea of Marmara off Martaş, Türkiye.
The ship was in ballast and bound for Tekirdağ when it grounded while attempting to berth at the port of Martaş. Reports indicate the vessel encountered very strong southwesterly winds, which pushed it off course and forced it ashore, leaving it stranded on the coastline.
Türkiye’s maritime authorities promptly dispatched an emergency response team to assist the distressed vessel. However, officials said that refloating attempts will be postponed until weather and sea conditions improve.
All nine crew members are reported safe, and no pollution has been detected. Divers attempted to inspect the grounded ship the following day, but heavy seas prevented a full assessment.
Built in 1985, White Line is 74.86 meters long and 10.6 meters wide. According to MarineTraffic, the vessel was still aground as of the latest update.
