SIPG Energy, a subsidiary of leading port operator Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG), has taken a significant step toward sustainability by ordering a new environmentally friendly LNG bunker vessel from Jiangnan Shipbuilding.
This state-of-the-art vessel aligns with SIPG’s long-term strategy to reduce the carbon footprint of maritime logistics. It will be equipped with three IMO Type C cryogenic LNG tanks with a total capacity of 20,000 m³, along with an IMO Tier III-compliant propulsion system designed to minimize SOx and CO₂ emissions.
Key green technology features include:
-
A boil-off gas (BOG) recovery and reuse system that prevents atmospheric release,
-
An electric azimuth main thruster and bow thruster for efficient maneuvering,
-
An intelligent ship management system to optimize energy consumption,
-
Capability to support inerting, cooling, and gas trials for other LNG-powered vessels.
The vessel’s primary role will be ship-to-ship LNG bunkering and fuel delivery to onshore terminals, positioning it as a critical asset in building a sustainable port infrastructure.
Delivery is scheduled for the first half of 2027.
As the world’s largest container port operator, SIPG continues to lead the green transformation of maritime operations, advancing sustainable shipping technologies and setting new standards for eco-friendly port logistics.
