The 37-meter research vessel Ocean Surveyor (IMO: 8316819) ran aground in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Möja, Sweden, during the night of August 15.
The 514-ton vessel had 12 crew members on board at the time of the incident. After the grounding, the crew notified the Swedish Coast Guard, which dispatched a patrol vessel to the area.
Ocean Surveyor remained aground until the following day, when it was successfully refloated. The vessel subsequently anchored nearby while its condition was assessed.
No injuries were reported among the 12 crew members, and there were no reports of fuel leaks or other pollution following the incident.
Divers inspected the vessel’s hull to determine whether it had sustained any damage during the grounding.
The cause of the incident has not yet been disclosed. Swedish maritime authorities and the Swedish Coast Guard are expected to investigate the circumstances that led to the vessel running aground.
