Disney Cruise Line has announced the postponement of the maiden voyage of its new cruise liner Disney Adventure, based in Singapore. Originally scheduled for December 15, 2025, the first commercial sailing is now set for March 10, 2026.
The company cited unforeseen delays during the completion phase. Joe Schott, President of Disney Signature Experiences, emphasized that Disney aims to ensure the highest quality of guest experiences and is offering flexible rebooking options to passengers.
The Vessel and Its Construction History.
-
Disney Adventure is the largest cruise ship ever built in Germany and the biggest in Disney Cruise Line’s history.
-
Gross tonnage: 208,100 GT, capacity: about 6,700 passengers.
-
The ship will feature over 2,100 staterooms, seven themed zones, and entertainment with Disney, Pixar, and Marvel characters.
-
Among the highlights: the longest roller coaster at sea.
Construction began in 2018 at MV Werften, owned by Genting Hong Kong. When the company went bankrupt in 2022, the vessel was reportedly 80% complete. Disney later acquired the unfinished ship for €40 million and invested up to $1 billion in its transformation into a fully Disney-themed cruise liner.
The completion project is overseen by Meyer Werft, which also builds new Disney ships. Disney Adventure carried out its first sea trials on September 1, 2025, in the Baltic and North Seas with more than 1,400 shipyard workers and contractors onboard.
Strategic Significance
Once in service, Disney Adventure will be the company’s only year-round ship based in Asia, offering three- and four-night ocean cruises from Singapore.
The delay also allows Disney to focus on the launch of another new ship — Disney Destiny (144,256 GT), the third Wish-class vessel, which is set to enter service from Port Everglades, Florida, in November 2025.
The industry is watching closely: the debut of Disney Adventure is expected to be a milestone event for the Asian cruise market.
