In the early morning of April 26, emergency services responded to a fire onboard the bulk carrier Nord Houston, moored at the docks in Newport.
The vessel was carrying approximately 1,000 tonnes of scrap metal, posing a significant fire risk.
Port authorities quickly mobilized resources, deploying five fire engines, specialized units, and two hydraulic platforms to fight the blaze.
A drone was used for aerial monitoring, while firefighting vessels remained on standby to support operations on the water.
According to the latest reports, the fire has been successfully contained, with no threat to life or nearby infrastructure.
Fire crews are continuing operations to unload the affected cargo and fully stabilize the situation.
Nord Houston is a Panama-flagged bulk carrier built in 2024, with a length of 179.9 meters, a beam of 30 meters, and a gross tonnage of 25,171 GT.
