Finnish company Norsepower, which specializes in the production of auxiliary propulsion systems, has received an order from Norwegian shipping operator Sea-Cargo to equip two Ro-Ro vessels with rotor sails. This was reported by the press service of Norsepower
The rotor sails will be installed on the 165-meter vessels Trans Hav and Trans Sol, which carry out cargo transportation between Norway and continental Europe. Each vessel will be equipped with three sails, 24 m high and 4 m in diameter. According to Norsepower, such wind propulsors will reduce fuel consumption on this route by half
Earlier, another Sea-Cargo vessel, the SC Connector, equipped with a folding rotor sail system, showed a reduction in fuel consumption by an average of 20-25% over several years of operation in the North Sea, and on certain routes the savings reached 70%.
