On 19 August 2025, MOL Cruises, Ltd., a subsidiary of Japanese shipping giant Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), officially announced the name of its new cruise ship — Mitsui Ocean Sakura].
The new vessel will be an important addition to the MOL Cruises fleet, further strengthening the company’s position in Japan’s premium cruise market.

The ship has been designed with a focus on comfort and exclusivity. Its size allows it to dock not only at major city terminals but also at smaller, more remote ports, including Okinawa and Hokkaido.
Entry into Service and Routes
Mitsui Ocean Sakura, sailing under the Japanese flag, is scheduled to enter service in late 2026. Details of its maiden voyages will be announced after the winter of 2025.
The vessel will primarily operate short and medium-length cruises departing from and returning to Japanese ports. It will join its sister ship, the Mitsui Ocean Fuji, which entered service in 2024, together creating a new premium segment of cruises across Japan.
