Container Ship Phoenix 15 Sinks Off Oman — All 20 Crew Members Rescued
The Maritime Security Center (MSC) of Oman has confirmed that the container ship Phoenix 15, sailing under the flag of the Comoros, sank in the Arabian Sea on June 21. The incident occurred approximately 20 nautical miles southeast of Salalah. At the time, 20 crew members were on board — all were successfully rescued, with no casualties reported.
The rescue operation was carried out by the container ship Gulf Barakah, sailing under the Marshall Islands flag, which was nearby. The vessel responded promptly to the distress call and picked up the crew from the sinking Phoenix 15.
The Maritime Security Center closely monitored the situation and coordinated efforts with relevant authorities to ensure the crew’s safety. The cause of the sinking has not yet been officially determined, and an investigation is ongoing.
Phoenix 15 was a container vessel built in 2009, measuring 118 meters in length and 16 meters in width, with a capacity of 346 TEU. According to MarineTraffic, the ship departed from Jebel Ali Port (UAE) on June 8 and was scheduled to arrive at Jeddah Port (Saudi Arabia) on July 1. It was reported to be partially loaded at the time of the incident.
