Aberdeen-based offshore vessel specialist Sentinel Marine is expanding its fleet through a deal with China’s Jiangmen Hangtong Shipbuilding to build up to four new multipurpose vessels.
The initial contract includes one 65-meter energy support vessel, with an option for three more. Delivery of the first vessel is expected in Q2 2027, bringing the company’s fleet to 15.
The ship is designed as a UK Group B (Type A) ERRV and will also meet Dutch and Danish standards. It will feature a fast rescue craft, a hybrid daughter craft, a walk-to-work bridge, a below-deck stores area, and a battery-hybrid propulsion system.
The vessel’s versatile design makes it suitable for a range of markets, including offshore wind support, energy transition services, carbon capture, government work, and maritime security.
“This new multipurpose energy support vessel marks a significant step forward in our Blue to Green strategy,” said Rory Deans, CEO of Sentinel Marine. “It will be a cornerstone in delivering clean, cross-sector maritime services..
Earlier in 2024, Singapore-based offshore wind company Cyan Renewables acquired a controlling stake in Sentinel Marine to strengthen its UK presence.
Cyan’s CEO, Keng Lin Lee, stated that the investment reflects both companies’ commitment to sustainable maritime innovation across offshore sectors.
