Hornbeck Offshore Services has announced that its subsidiary Helix Well Ops (U.K.) Limited has secured a multi-year well decommissioning contract with a major operator in the North Sea. The customer has not been named.
Work is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2027. The contract has a firm duration of two years, with options for the customer to extend it. Hornbeck has not disclosed the contract value.
The company will perform riserless plug and abandonment operations using either Well Enhancer or Seawell, two purpose-built well intervention vessels. Hornbeck has not specified which vessel will be assigned to the project.
The contract covers an integrated package of services: the vessel, a Subsea Intervention Lubricator well access system, remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), saturation diving, engineering and project management.
Hornbeck Offshore President and CEO Todd Hornbeck said the award builds on the company’s experience in decommissioning wells without a drilling rig. The agreement brings the vessel, subsea equipment and supporting services together under a single contract.
Hornbeck Offshore provides marine and subsea services to the offshore energy, defence and renewables sectors. The North Sea award is among the company’s projects following its merger with Helix Energy Solutions Group, completed in September.
