South Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean has officially marked its entry into the deepwater drilling market with a naming ceremony for its next-generation drillship, Tidal Action.
The advanced vessel is capable of drilling up to 12,000 meters below the seabed in waters as deep as 3,600 meters. It is equipped with a cutting-edge dynamic positioning (DP) system and enhanced blowout preventers (BOPs), designed to maximize operational safety and efficiency.
Renata Baruzzi, Director of Engineering, Technology, and Innovation at Brazilian energy giant Petrobras, served as the ship’s godmother during the ceremony.
The event marks a major milestone following the 2023 launch of Hanwha Drilling, an independent offshore fleet operator under Hanwha Ocean. Under a long-term charter agreement, Petrobras will operate the vessel in partnership with Constellation Oil Services.
“Delivering one of the most advanced drillships in the world and entering the offshore drilling market is a major achievement,” said Philippe Levy, President of Hanwha Ocean’s Offshore Division.
Hanwha aims to leverage its eco-friendly and high-efficiency drilling technologies to strengthen its presence in global deepwater energy projects and contribute to more sustainable offshore development.
