Damen Shipyards Group has signed a series of new contracts to deliver four advanced tugboats to Fairplay Towage and Neue Schleppdampfschiffsreederei Louis Meyer.
Three contracts were concluded with Fairplay Towage in March, while an additional agreement was signed with Louis Meyer. Following Damen’s strategy of building vessels in series for stock, construction of the tugs began before the contracts were finalized, enabling faster delivery.
By the end of 2024, Fairplay Towage is set to receive three tugs — one RSD Tug 2513 and two ASD Tug 2312. A second RSD Tug 2513 is expected to arrive in early 2026. One of the ASD Tug 2312 vessels will be delivered to Louis Meyer and subsequently placed on a long-term bareboat charter with Fairplay for operations in Germany.
This order is part of Fairplay Towage’s ongoing fleet renewal program, aimed at increasing the efficiency and sustainability of its operations. Over the past four years, the company has ordered a total of 15 new Damen tugs, reinforcing a strong and strategic partnership.
While the tugs are based on proven Damen standard designs, each vessel is tailored to meet the specific needs of the clients. Options selected include LNG-ready packages, FiFi-1 firefighting systems, winterization features, and compliance with IMO Tier III standards through Damen’s NOX reduction technology.
The tugs are being built at Damen’s shipyards in China and Vietnam and will be delivered to the Port of Rotterdam via heavy-lift transport. This method ensures low-emission delivery and maintains vessel integrity.
Upon arrival, clients will benefit from warranty support and after-sales services provided by Damen Services Germany, based in Hamburg, serving Damen vessels across Germany and Poland.
