🇧🇩 A collision between two container vessels occurred at the outer anchorage of the port of Chattogram, with approximately 2,900 containers onboard.
Following the incident, both vessels sustained varying degrees of damage. They were safely escorted into port with tug assistance under continuous monitoring by the VTMS (Vessel Traffic Management System).
⚠️ During the operation, vessel traffic in the area was partially restricted to reduce navigational risks and prevent further incidents.
The response was carried out in a controlled manner, focusing on:
- preventing further structural damage
- ensuring crew safety
- securing the cargo
📌 Additional context:
The port of Chattogram handles up to 90% of Bangladesh’s external trade, meaning even minor incidents can impact regional logistics and cause vessel delays.
At this stage, information regarding injuries, potential pollution, or the full extent of the damage is still being clarified.
