ElbFeeder expands fleet with order for two 2,280 TEU containerships
The joint venture ElbFeeder, established by Icelandic transport company Eimskip and German shipowner Ernst Russ, has signed contracts with China Merchants Jin Ling Shipyard (Nanjing) Co. Ltd. for the construction of two 2,280 TEU containerships.
Once delivered, ElbFeeder’s fleet will increase to nine vessels, with ongoing discussions for the possible construction of two additional units.
Deployment and charter
The two ships will operate on Eimskip’s Blue Line between Reykjavik and Rotterdam under an initial 10-year time charter, signed alongside the shipbuilding contracts. This arrangement secures Eimskip’s long-term transport needs between Iceland and Europe while providing ElbFeeder with a stable revenue stream.
