The offshore vessel Olympic Notos has completed a major conversion project at the Norwegian shipyard Ulstein Verft. Following sea trials and final commissioning work, the vessel is expected to enter service shortly.
The upgrade focused on replacing the vessel’s existing Walk-to-Work (W2W) system with a new specialized solution developed to support the Yggdrasil offshore development project on the Norwegian continental shelf, including operations at the Munin platform.
The vessel has been equipped with a modern motion-compensated gangway, allowing offshore personnel to safely transfer between the vessel and offshore installations even in challenging sea conditions. The system also enables workers to live onboard while carrying out offshore operations.
According to project representatives, the new gangway system will also play an important role in maintaining operational safety across the field.
The conversion required extensive integration of new systems and equipment and was carried out through close cooperation between Ulstein, Olympic, and Aker BP.
Ulstein Verft stated that the completion of the Olympic Notos project marks another important milestone for the yard’s growing retrofit and aftermarket business, demonstrating how existing offshore vessels can be adapted to meet new operational demands and future industry requirements.
