⚠️ Fatal Accident Aboard Tidewater POLARIS During Offshore Operations Near New York

A tragic incident occurred on June 2 aboard the U.S.-flagged supply vessel Tidewater POLARIS, resulting in the death of a crew member during operations in the Atlantic Ocean.

Tidewater confirmed the fatality in an official statement, noting that emergency response protocols were initiated immediately. Despite the efforts of both the crew and emergency responders, the individual could not be saved.

“This is a heartbreaking maritime accident. Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and colleagues who lost a loved one,” said Molly Morris, Senior Vice President of Equinor Renewables Americas.

POLARIS is a U.S.-flagged DP2 offshore supply vessel built in 2014. AIS data shows the vessel docked in New York Harbor on June 3, where it remains.

Although Equinor did not specify the ship’s role, it is actively involved in constructing the Empire Wind offshore wind project off the coast of New York. The $5 billion project aims to power over 500,000 homes by 2027 and recently resumed after being paused under the Trump administration. The U.S. Coast Guard is currently investigating the cause of the incident, with Tidewater pledging full cooperation.

Further details remain undisclosed at this time.
