In the early hours of August 26, 2025, the Vietnamese-flagged bulk carrier Thanh Thanh Dat 99 ran aground off the coast of Binh village, Thanh Hoa Province. All 19 crew members onboard are safe, and no environmental pollution or oil spill has been reported.
Circumstances of the Incident
The vessel departed from Tinh Long Port on August 25 and was en route to Nghi Son Port to deliver cargo.
At around 01:30 a.m. local time on August 26, as it approached the anchorage, the ship encountered severe weather caused by tropical storm Kajiki.
Heavy seas and strong winds prevented the crew from anchoring, resulting in the vessel being pushed aground just 70–100 meters from shore.
Authorities’ Response
Local units of the Vietnam Border Guard and the Nghi Son Port Authority are closely monitoring the situation. Authorities are mobilizing equipment and plan to refloat the vessel once weather conditions improve.
