The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has reported a series of attacks involving four commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz on September 28 and 29.
The first incident occurred on September 28, when an unidentified projectile struck a vessel and caused a fire on board. The crew successfully extinguished the blaze, and no injuries were reported.
According to the International Maritime Organization, the vessel was identified as the Kuwait-flagged crude oil tanker Al Funtas.
On the following day, September 29, UKMTO recorded three more similar incidents.
In the first case, a projectile struck the port side of a tanker carrying crude oil. In the second incident, an unidentified projectile hit a tanker sailing inbound through the Persian Gulf. The International Maritime Organization identified the vessels as the Vanuatu-flagged Mersin Prosperity and the Liberia-flagged Sinbad.
According to Vanguard Tech, the fourth vessel involved was the Bahamas-flagged LNG carrier Al Ruwais, which was also reportedly struck by an unidentified projectile.
Despite the series of attacks, the crews of all four vessels are safe. No significant damage to the tankers or marine pollution was reported.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important maritime routes for energy trade. Tankers carrying crude oil, petroleum products and liquefied natural gas transit the waterway daily between the Persian Gulf and global markets.
