On 17 January, the Naxos Port Authority was informed that the Ro-Ro cargo vessel TALOS (Greek registry No. 10899) had run aground on a sandy shoal in the “Vintzi” sea area inside the port of Naxos, Greece. At the time, the ship was operating a scheduled service carrying 20 crew, 12 passengers, and 29 trucks.
After refloating under her own power, TALOS attempted to enter the port to berth. During the mooring manoeuvres, the vessel’s stern made contact with the central pier. Due to adverse weather conditions, further berthing attempts were deemed impracticable and the ship proceeded to a safe anchorage southwest of Naxos, where she remained pending improvement in conditions.
Authorities reported no injuries, no water ingress, and no marine pollution. An investigation is being carried out by the Naxos Port Authority.
