On May 30, four ships ran aground in the Bay of Bengal due to severe storm conditions. All incidents occurred near the coastline close to Chittagong Port, Bangladesh. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or environmental damage.
The storm brought winds reaching up to 64 km/h, accompanied by heavy rain and rough seas. Such conditions are typical in the Bay of Bengal during the monsoon season and often result in maritime accidents.
One of the affected vessels was the tug Navimar-3, which had been docked near Anwara due to unpaid fuel bills. It was pushed ashore along with the barge Mermaid-3.
Further north of the port, the tanker Al Herem was driven ashore after losing control in the turbulent sea.
Another vessel, the tanker B-LPG Sophia, which had been anchored at Chittagong Port since a fire and explosion in October last year, was also grounded by the storm.
Despite the severity of the events, all crew members were reported safe, and no oil spills or other pollution were observed.
