The impact caused damage in the vessel’s engine room area. The ship’s chief engineer was killed as a result of the attack.
The Oman Coast Guard participated in the response and assisted the remaining crew members following the incident. No pollution was reported after the attack.
Minoan Dignity
Minoan Dignity is a bulk carrier built in 2004, measuring approximately 225 metres in length and 32.2 metres in width.
The vessel is registered to Asante Management Co and managed by Modion Maritime Management.
The attack has further increased concerns over the safety of commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important maritime routes, where vessel traffic has faced serious disruption.
Following the incident, UKMTO urged vessels operating in the area to exercise increased caution and report any suspicious activity.
