Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) said the Singapore-flagged bulk carrier Devon Bay sank on January 23 in the South China Sea. Two seafarers have been confirmed dead, while four remain missing

The vessel, loaded with iron ore, was sailing from the Philippines to southern China when contact was lost. Chinese authorities reported the ship capsized near the disputed Scarborough Shoal area, triggering a multi-agency response involving the China Coast Guard and military assets, with the Philippine Coast Guard also deploying ships and aircraft to support ongoing search operations.

According to updates cited by authorities and media, 15 crew members were rescued, while search-and-rescue teams continue working to locate the missing crew.

Vessel details: Devon Bay is a Singapore-flagged bulk carrier built in 2013, with LOA 189.99 m and beam 32.25 m.
