On March 31, a krill fishing trawler operating in the Antarctic waters was intentionally rammed by the activist vessel Bandero.
💥 The collision caused minor damage to the vessel.
✅ No injuries were reported, and no environmental pollution occurred.
The incident took place approximately 805 km south of Argentina. According to the CEO of Aker QRILL, the activist vessel struck the trawler at the stern, near the diesel tanks.
⚠️ He warned that more severe damage could have resulted in a major fuel spill.
He also noted that activists had previously attempted to damage fishing nets of another vessel.
The activist ship is operated by the Captain Paul Watson Foundation, which argues that krill is a keystone species in the Antarctic ecosystem.
Initially, the group claimed the collision was accidental, but later admitted:
👉 the action was intentional, aimed at sending a message.
📊 According to the foundation, Aker QRILL accounts for over 60% of krill harvesting in the region.
