Cargo Ship Hagland Captain Grounds Near Svinesund Bridge
The incident occurred on the night of October 16 around 1:00 a.m. local time near the Svinesund Bridge, which connects Norway and Sweden.
The vessel Hagland Captain, sailing from Porsgrunn to Halden with a cargo of timber, as well as 85 tons of diesel fuel and 3 tons of lubricants on board, ran aground in dense fog.
No fuel leaks or environmental pollution have been reported, and no injuries occurred.
Authorities and Rescue Operations
The Swedish Coast Guard was alerted at around 1:30 a.m., and by 3:30 a.m., a Vessel Traffic Service tug and the patrol vessel KBV 310 had arrived at the scene.
Divers were deployed to inspect the hull for any underwater damage.
The crew was interviewed and underwent alcohol testing, with no signs of intoxication found.
The Norwegian Emergency Environmental Response Group was placed on standby, while the Swedish Sea Rescue Society (SSRS) assisted in transporting environmental protection equipment.
The Swedish Transport Agency and Strömstad Rescue Service were also notified.
Authorities plan to refloat the vessel during the high tide, expected around 3:00 p.m..
