Swedish company Viking Supply Ships, based in Stenungsund, has strengthened its fleet with the acquisition of a new ice-class anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel. The company announced the purchase of the Atlantic Kestrel, a 1A ice-class vessel built in 2012 by the Canadian firm Atlantic Towing.
The 85-meter ship, originally named Jaya Supreme, was the largest vessel ever constructed by the Jaya shipyard at the time of its delivery. It was initially registered under the Singapore flag but later renamed to meet the operational requirements of the Canadian offshore sector. Powered by engines generating over 16,000 horsepower, the vessel boasts an impressive 211 tonnes of continuous bollard pull, making it a powerful asset for harsh Arctic waters.
The ship is set to be delivered to Viking Supply Ships in September 2025 and will be renamed Ben Viking. With this addition, the company’s fleet will consist of seven anchor handlers, reflecting its strategic focus after selling off its PSV segment in January last year.
