A Swedish Coast Guard vessel collided with the passenger ferry Eckerö while the ferry was at anchor in the port of Grisslehamn, Sweden. Authorities say all passengers and crew are safe and no one was injured.
The incident occurred on the morning of 3 March, when the Coast Guard ship KBV 202 struck the Eckerö ferry as it was preparing to depart for the Åland Islands at 10:00. According to official information, the Coast Guard vessel hit the ferry and then crashed into the pier. KBV 202 sustained significant damage, including a large hole in the bow above the waterline after impact with the quay.
As a result, Eckerö sailings scheduled for 3 and 4 March were cancelled.
Passengers who were on board at the time were safely disembarked and transported away from the port by bus. Port authorities are awaiting a technical inspection of the Coast Guard vessel, which is currently unable to move under its own power. Normal port operations reportedly resumed on 5 March.
The cause of the accident remains unknown, and both the Swedish Transport Agency and Swedish police have opened an investigation.
