On the night of April 13, a head-on collision occurred on the Oude Maas River near the town of Portugaal, Netherlands, involving two inland vessels — the 150-meter tanker Chimo (MMSI: 244130477) and the 135-meter container ship New Jersey (MMSI: 244927482).
As a result of the incident, Chimo sustained a large gash above the waterline, while New Jersey suffered significant damage to the port side of its bow, also above the waterline. Fortunately, no injuries were reported on either vessel.
Despite the damage, New Jersey was able to proceed on its own to a shipyard in Dordrecht for repairs. The circumstances of the collision are currently under investigation.
