Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the cargo vessel Rona sank in the Caspian Sea on 14 January after suffering water ingress. The ship issued an SOS requesting assistance, prompting a rapid response by Turkmenistan’s coast guard services.
All 14 crew members were successfully rescued from the distressed vessel, and authorities said there were no reported injuries. No additional official details about the cause of the incident have been released.
According to vessel databases, Rona is an Iran-flagged general cargo ship built in 1983, measuring 113.98 m in length with a 13.21 m beam.
