A crude oil tanker identified by maritime security company Vanguard Tech as the Barbados-flagged Grit was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz on November 3, 2026.

No crew injuries were reported. The incident followed several attacks on commercial vessels in the region during the first days of November.

Two projectiles reportedly hit the engine room

According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations centre, the attack occurred at approximately 19:00 UTC, around 14 nautical miles northeast of Limah, Oman.

Two unidentified projectiles reportedly struck the tanker’s engine room. The type of weapons used and responsibility for the attack have not been established in the available reports.

Extent of damage remains unclear

Grit is a very large crude carrier, or VLCC, measuring approximately 332 metres in length and 58 metres in beam.

The available reports do not clarify the tanker’s operational condition, whether it could continue its voyage or what repairs might be required.

Further attacks on commercial shipping

Other incidents reported in early November involved the tug Selat Storm and the tanker Largo Atom. A separate attack on the Indian-flagged vessel Al Jusufi near Oman on November 2 killed one seafarer.

The attack on Grit adds to concerns over crew safety and commercial shipping in the region. Further information about the damage and the vessel’s condition is needed to assess its consequences.
