Italian energy company Saipem has signed a contract with Turkish Petroleum to carry out Phase 3 of the Sakarya gas field development. The deal is valued at $1.5 billion.
Sakarya is Turkey’s largest offshore natural gas discovery, located about 170 km off the coast of Filyos. The new phase will include the construction of a floating production unit (FPU), which will be supplied by 27 wells from the Sakarya and Amasra fields.
Under the contract, Saipem will handle the engineering, construction, and installation of eight rigid flowlines, as well as a 24-inch export pipeline stretching 183 km and connecting the field at a depth of up to 2,200 meters.
The project is expected to last around three years, with major offshore operations scheduled for 2027 using Saipem’s pipelay vessel Castorone.
Saipem has been involved in Sakarya since the beginning: in 2021, the company completed the first phase of the field’s development, and in 2023, it was awarded the contract for Phase 2, which is now nearing completion.
