🛢 Oil Spill off Thailand’s Coast: Approximately 20,000 Liters Released from Tanker Phoenix Jamnagar
On the night of June 6, an oil spill occurred off the coast of Thailand during a cargo operation involving the Phoenix Jamnagar tanker. A sudden gust of wind caused the cargo hoses to break free, leading to a spill of approximately 20,000 liters (~5 tonnes) of oil into the sea.
The incident took place at the SBM-2 offshore terminal near Si Racha, Chonburi Province, in the Gulf of Thailand.
The VLCC Phoenix Jamnagar (deadweight: 311,798 tonnes), built in 2019, sails under the flag of Singapore 🇸🇬. The vessel is on charter to Thai Oil, and owned by Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines.
