LS Marine to Build One of the World’s Largest Cable-Laying Vessels
South Korean subsea cable installation specialist LS Marine Solution has unveiled plans to build one of the world’s largest cable-laying vessels (CLVs).
In a statement filed with the stock exchange on Tuesday, the company announced an investment of KRW 345.8 billion (approximately $252 million) in a 13,000-ton displacement vessel, which is set to rank among the top five largest CLVs globally and become Asia’s largest in terms of cable load capacity.
Although the shipbuilder has not yet been selected, LS Marine expects the vessel to enter operation in the first half of 2028.
The project aims to support the growing demand for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission and offshore wind energy, while also positioning the company as a global turnkey solution provider in collaboration with LS Cable & System.
Currently operating three cable-laying assets, LS Marine stated that the new vessel will be capable of laying both HVDC submarine cables and fiber-optic cables simultaneously. It will also feature advanced capabilities found in only three similar vessels worldwide.
