On April 16, a fire broke out aboard the ro-ro cargo vessel Delphine, sailing under the Maltese flag, while it was docked at the CLdN terminal in Zeebrugge, Belgium.
At around 15:00 local time, the fire ignited on one of the vehicle decks. Firefighting teams responded swiftly with a large crew and the support of three tugboats. The ship’s CO₂-based fire suppression system was activated, effectively cutting off the oxygen supply and containing the fire.
Fortunately, all crew members were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported. The ship’s captain remained on board to assist the firefighters in managing the situation.
According to the Port of Zeebrugge authorities, the vessel’s internal firefighting system successfully localized the fire. Fire crews were assessing the next steps to prevent reignition as the hatches were being reopened. The extent of the damage has yet to be determined.
Despite the incident, port operations continued with minimal disruptions. Vessel traffic remained active, although one ship at the nearby LNG terminal was temporarily delayed due to safety perimeters around the affected area.
