TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING (Fukuyama, Japan) launched the country's first hydrogen-powered internal combustion engine tugboat. The ceremony took place on March 28, 2025, at the TSUNEISHI shipyard
Green technologies
The vessel is equipped with two 12-cylinder dual-fuel engines (4,400 hp) that run on hydrogen and traditional fuel, which reduces CO₂ emissions by 60%. 250 kg of high-pressure hydrogen is used for storage, allowing the tug to maintain efficiency
The hull is made of environmentally friendly JGreeX steel, which reduces CO₂ emissions during the manufacturing process
The project was implemented under the Nippon Foundation’s “Zero Emission Ships” program
